As children grow older and their knowledge expands, iridescent books are something many of them simply cannot put down. When an author brings a book to life with words and animated drawings or pictures, even the reluctant reader may find themselves caught up in the story…and looking forward to more. Illustrated books also have a tendency to spark imagination and rouse curiosity. One lady I know said her daughter, when between the ages of four and five, loved Jim Davis’ Garfield character so much after having a short book read to her that she spent hours, daily for months, trying to draw the ”lasagna eating cat.”

* Scooby Doo: The world’s most cowardly Great Dane is also one of the most popular figures in coloring book history. His adventures with his human best friend Shaggy and his nephew Scrappy Doo are the stuff of childhood legend. You don’t need any Scooby Snacks to urge you to experiment with amazing color schemes on this dog.
The growth in popularity of the books reportedly has much to do with adult relaxation and stress release. Many adults who use the books report that they find the repetitive, low-stress nature of coloring in to be soothing, relaxing, and a way of de-stressing away from the pressures of life and work.
