Shane Thielges | Shale Plays Media
Aubrey McClendon, the natural gas tycoon widely known as a pioneering figure of the US shale revolution, has acquired a stake in Tall Oak Midstream LLC’s planned Oklahoma pipeline.
Bloomberg reports that McClendon’s American Energy Partners has committed existing transmission lines to the pipeline and processing network in exchange for a minority interest in the project. The line’s route spans 250 miles of north-central Oklahoma and will target the Woodford shale region. It is planned to include compression sites and cryogenic processing plants.
McClendon’s American Energy Partners has assembled a massive network of land rights, corporate partnerships and drilling operations since leaving Chesapeake Energy, a company he founded, in April 2013. He’s been called both a genius and the most reckless businessman in America.
American Energy partners will have the opportunity to eventually acquire up to 50% of the Tall Oak Midstream pipeline. McClendon has already committed drilling prospects from Oklahoma land to the pipe network.
