Community playground structures provide the kids a safe and hygienic place to meet and have fun together. Besides kids such structures also form an interesting get together place for the stay at home mothers. It is a suitable place to take a morning walk with pet animals. Organizing birthday parties and other social events for the kids and the entire community at large forms one of the biggest benefits of playground structures. Besides mastering basic skills and working in coordination with others, playgrounds also help in sharpening the skills of the children.
Possibilities for injuries to occur in a playground come sometimes from the equipment itself-for instance, deteriorating materials, unsafe designs, and unstable surfaces-but a lot of the injuries that occur are the result of unsafe or careless actions. The good thing about this is it puts it well within you and your child’s control.
Probably the best protective surface to use is rubber playground tiles, also known as playground mats. Rubber playground tiles are great because you can get many different thicknesses, from 1” to 4 1/4”. This is great because the CPSC has a statistic called the ”Critical Height of Playground Equipment”, which is the highest point that kids can get to on any piece of playground equipment. Once you know the critical height, you can figure out the thickness of playground tiles or mulch that’s needed for that area.
There is a huge variety of playground equipment for use in the home playground these days but, before you get too carried away, remember that your kids will outgrow that little swing set and get too tall for the little climbing frame. Do not spend too much money on equipment that will be obsolete in a year or two, concentrate instead on creating a play space that is suitable for everyone.
Some playgrounds are also simple soil or grass, but this comes with problems as well. Soil becomes hard-packed over time, especially with children running around on it, and in the long run it may even end up as hard as asphalt.
We should also set up swings, seesaws, and those playground equipment with moving parts in an area separate from the rest of the play structures. When we set up swings, they should be at least 24 inches apart and 30 inches between a swing and the support frame.
