Mandala colouring is also a great tool for meditation.
Remember when you were a child, lying on your tummy on the floor, coloring book open, crayon in hand with the other crayons spilling out of the box? Can you remember the sense of peace and enjoyment you felt while you were coloring? Why not consider revisiting this favorite childhood pastime to help during those times when you find yourself feeling on edge.
A Transpersonal Experience
Randy took an iron pole and drove it into the ground at the center of our backyard. He tied a string to it and walked outward from the center pulling the string tightly and using it as a guide to mark a large circle where he intended to start our garden. He blessed the ground as a sacred place and then made a rough drawing of a design for the garden. Each quadrant features a color, a cardinal direction, and component of life associated with it. There is a goldfish pond in the north, a fire pit in the south, metal ornaments in the east and a wooden bench in the east. We’ve placed an altar in the middle where we leave gifts such as herbs, gem stones, coins and seeds to thank the gnomes and faeries who help our garden grow!
Active meditation when combined with art is particularly effective for stress relief. I have found that thirty minutes of active meditation can reduce anxiety and even help with panic attacks. Even a short ten minutes is enough to produce positive results. As you enjoy practicing your active meditation you will find it continually gets easier to relax and achieve a peaceful, meditative state.
