Children will have hours of fun with the pop-up structures. They can also spend time coloring the background, building the props, and setting up the characters that they will use in Crayola Crayon Town. The play set comes with a 22 X 17 inch play mat, figures, vehicles, pop up buildings, accessories and 4 Crayola crayons. The crayons are regular Crayola crayons. For example the large zoo set comes with 1 Zookeeper, 1 Monkey, 1 Giraffe, 1 Alligator, 1 Lion, 1 Polar Bear, 1 All-Terrain Vehicle, 1 Gateway, 1 Tree, 1 Wagon, 1 Fold & Build Polar Cave, 1 Fold & Build Lion Cave, 1 Fold & Build Monkey Tree, 2 Coloring Mats, 22” x 17”, 8 Crayons.

They have the challenge to assemble and build the setting doing whatever their imagination tells them. They can use the crayons to make their own wacky animals, vehicles, and structures. Once the town has been constructed, they can start playing and just go wherever their imagination takes them.

Made of a mixture of charcoal and oil, records of what were probably the first crayons are found in Europe. Later, the oil was replaced with wax making sticks that were less messy and easier to handle.

Chalks

Conté crayons are waxier and firmer than soft pastels, so they produce little dust and are easy to control. The sticks, which are 2 1/2” x 1/4” square, can be broken into shorter sections for ease of use for detail and shading. Today, Conte Crayons come in small sets of earth toned colors or larger color sets which include tans, violets, blues, reds, greens and yellows in rich, vibrant shades. The purity of the pigments used in Conte Crayons assures their permanence and longevity in art work. Some artists choose to use colored paper for their work with Conté crayons because the density of pigmentation in the crayon holds up well on a dark or colored paper surface.

I joined her in coloring, using the time to tune into her instead of against her. I found that I enjoyed coloring once again. It did its work on me also. Along with bonding with my child, I also relaxed and enjoyed the calming effect that coloring had on me.
