One of the easiest ways to provide crayons for children is by buying them wholesale. If you take just a few moments to browse online, you can find a reputable dollar store supplier that offers crayons at a price better than any retail store could ever offer. This is a great way for schools and other organizations to get the crayons that they need while sticking to a budget. Large groups are not the only ones who can benefit from buying wholesale crayons though. What most people don’t realize is that the average individual can buy wholesale products as well. Although you might have to buy a little larger quantity than you were looking for, the savings would be well worth it. As for the extra crayons, you could donate them, save them for later use, or split them among family and friends along with the purchase price. If we can find an affordable way to get crayons for every child out there, why wouldn’t we?
As a Conte Crayon is used, the stick will slowly erode, and it should not require any sharpening unless detail is desired. Manufacturers also offer Conté crayons in varying degrees of hardness, allowing artists to use Conté crayons for softer lines and more delicate shading as well as strong, precise lines for delineation. Conte Crayons are sold both individually and in boxed sets, with many art supply stores carrying an abundance of individual black, brown, and red Conté crayons, since these colors are in high demand.
I must admit that personally I bought into this concept hook, line and sinker. When my two older daughters were small, I colored with them, and enjoyed doing it. I never realized the calming effect it had on both the girls and me.
In 1903, Binney & Smith realized that if they made a few changes to the crayon they developed for marking crates, they could provide a less messy alternative to the crayons used in their public schools at that time. Binney & Smith tasked a chemist of their company to work at creating crayons that would be both non-toxic and easily mass produced. Binney & Smith were successful in the endeavor to create crayons that would work well for a young school children and soon the cousins were selling a box of eight crayons for about a nickel under the trade name of Crayola. The first box contained the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown and black. Forty years later there was forty more colors added to the color pallette. By the seventies fluorescent colors were added to the line up which brought the number of colors available up to seventy-two.
Coloring is a natural childhood joy. You see pure bliss on a child’s face when given a new coloring book and especially a new box of crayons. Did you ever notice that one of the first things a child does with her crayons is to smell them? Their smell is invigorating and tantalizing
Another way to apply color is by rubbing your pencil crayon on a piece of scrap and ”dipping” the blender pen into the color before applying. This will create a softer effect. Another way to watercolor is by using your ink pad. With the lid shut, push in the middle of the pad to create a pool of ink on the lid. Then you simply dip your blender pen into the ink and paint into the image. By doing this, you can create a stronger coloring effect.
